Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

#OurFutures stories by EU citizens
Don't give into fear
Small farms are dead, taxed out and priced out by big corporate farms because of terrible policy by government. Countries give into fear mongering and politicians lobbied by greed set up boarders, heavily armed and highly secure, along with big cities with digital checkpoints. Governments should do what is best for their citizens, they don't like making hard decisions and are just very reactionary and very rearly proactive. Fiat currency will soon be gone.
sthlm 2040
In 2040, I wake up in my home in Stockholm, a city that has undergone major changes over the past 25 years. I look out the window and admire the green roof gardens and solar panels that adorn every building. The city has become a model for sustainability and innovation.
After breakfast, I take my electric bike to work. Bicycle paths are wide and safe, and the air is clean thanks to the strict environmental laws introduced in the 2030s. On the way I pass several parks where people enjoy the morning sun, and I notice how much greener the city has become.
At work, a research center for renewable energy, I am working on a project aimed at improving the efficiency of solar cells. I remember how, in the 2020s, Europe started to invest heavily in renewable energy and how it led to a reduction in CO2 emissions and an increase in energy security.
After work, I meet my friends at a local market. We talk about how technology has changed our lives, from smart homes to advanced medical care. We also discuss social changes, such as increased gender equality and inclusion, which have made Europe a fairer and more harmonious place to live.
When I go home, I think about how much the world has changed since 2025. I feel hopeful for the future and proud to be part of a society that values sustainability, innovation and human rights
Figyeljünk egymásra
By 2040, I'm imagining a peaceful future. There are no wars anywhere in the world, people pay more attention to each other. Without more advanced technology, 20 years will not pass, and artificial intelligence will gain more and more ground. I believe in the power of personal relationships.
En levande stadskärna
By 2040, the standby where I live could have evolved and grown. In the city of my dreams I have the opportunity to stay in the center where the beach has grown. The city centre has become more vibrant as the city has become denser in the centre. Many empty spaces have been built with more and larger homes where even families with children can get a place in the center. The number of central playgrounds has increased. More small spaces for meetings have been created. As more people have now chosen to live in the city centre, the range of shops has increased. The opening hours of the city's existing cafes have increased and more cafes, bars and smaller restaurants have arisen as a spontaneous reaction to the city's increased population who want to meet in social rooms outside their residence where opportunities are given to socialize with your loved ones while at the same time being given an opportunity to meet new acquaintances. Imagine taking your knitting and going out to buy a cup of coffee and sit down and suddenly spontaneously get company from others with the same or similar interests. Imagine that a lukewarm summer evening after work take his book and go out and sit in some backyard drinking wine and end the evening with a deep discussion of the events in the book together with someone else a little lonely himself who also read the same book.
Libertad de futuro
A clean future, without environmental risks, with the right temperature, with water and food for all, with work and opportunities for research, development, medical and technological evolution.
A future where we can all develop our concerns.
A future where we are equal wherever we are and want to be.
A future without conflicts and free trade, freedom to go and interact with those we want.
A future with medical advances that allow us to live longer and, of course, better.
A future where we can enjoy our time after finishing the job.
Mi-ar placea...
I would like every country to be sovereign in the year 2040. To decide fully on its own resources and to collaborate with other countries on the basis of their own resources and in the spirit of common profit for each party. I would like no more unwarranted elections to be canceled and all sorts of coups d'etats to be given that do not take place even in third world countries. I wish there wasn't a class of super rich people and one of those super poor people. Invest a lot in health and education. Amen!
2040
The year is 2040. The transition to a greener and more sustainable society started already in 2025, when the European Union introduced ambitious climate measures to reduce carbon emissions and restore natural ecosystem processes. World leaders understood that the climate crisis is not only an environmental problem, but also a social and economic one.
Today, in 2040, I moved around the city using electric transport, which is completely autonomous. I no longer need a driving licence – cars and public transport are integrated into a single network that I can control from a smart device. My daily life is fully technology-related, but it is ethically developed in support of public goods. Our cities have become sustainable, green and intelligent centres where people live in harmony with nature.
There were many challenges between 2025 and 2040. First, the biggest changes took place in the world of education and work. Artificial intelligence has created a new educational model that adapts to the needs and speed of each individual. Learning was no longer just a traditional school process – it became a continuous experience that integrated into people’s lives. We are no longer working as we did in 2025. The work is more flexible and tailored to each individual's personal needs. We are experiencing a revolution in the labour market, where not only experience, but also creativity, emotional intelligence and human aspects are appreciated.
In recent years, we have also seen a reduction in social inequalities. Europe has become a society in which every person, no matter where they come from, is able to achieve their goals, because we invest more resources in people's potential than in a model of economic growth.
However, there are also challenges that still need to be addressed. Artificial intelligence, which has helped to develop human capabilities, continues to create new ethical dilemmas. How to balance the development of technology and preserve the human nature? Can we preserve our own identity by living together in a global network? These issues are still alive in our society, and it is clear that the future will be full of new challenges that we will tackle together.
Cities that are green and modern give hope that we can survive in this world that is more connected to nature than separated from it. I hope that in the future we will be able to fully understand and accept this balance.
Medmänsklighet
When my daughter is a young adult, she can go out into the world with a positive feeling and security. We have no wars or major political conflicts (trade tariffs, power-mad imperialists like presidents, etc.) but the world is peaceful and politically stable. Gang crime and serious crime have significantly decreased and the risk of ordinary people being killed or injured in gang-related violence or terrorist acts is minimal. My daughter can trust her fellow man.
Det jämlika samhället
In the future, people will be more equal and tolerant. Parties on the extreme right ceased to exist when people realized that populism and hatred only divide society and harm everyone. When all people are given the same conditions, regardless of gender or background, the enormous social and economic inequality in society disappears - the richest lost their assets through various efforts such as higher taxes for the rich and demands that they contribute more to society.
Izaugsme un attīstība
All people have become different, all are honest, full of goodness and love for the people around them. Children are brought up according to general human and ethical principles. Therefore, given that people have become open and full of love, there is no more crime and mutual wars. Humanity does not spend its resources on the redistribution of power and money, but is fully involved in the development of human beings, which is why it is happening very rapidly.
Min fremtid
I see a future where we have war all over the world. We can't seem to live in peace. But I also see a future where artificial intelligence has changed the world, where it helps us in everyday life and where companies have great help from IA. But I also see a future where ia helps the criminals and there will be a lot of fake info. Artificially manufactured.
