Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Harmony
A future where people recognize others as human beings, with feelings, hopes, pains and joys just like themselves. No matter if they have a different skin colour, they come from beyond the borders, they have different values or different beliefs.
If this came true, solidarity would be our daily bread and people would think critacally instead of retweeting the latest fake news as it was the truth that will change the world’s destiny.
In this further there would be a compulsory civil service for all, aimed at exploring diversity. Education would be focused on learning to learn, giving knowledge, skills but also attitudes, especially openness towards possible alternatives to what is known, thus comfortable . Healthcare would be holistic and integrate care and well being to cures.
Public services would serve people and not tick the box of solved tickets. People would find meaning in their jobs, because jobs would be prevented from being harmful to people or the planet. In my future people nations will cooperate because the common good is greater than gaining advantage over the neighbor.
Beyond neoliberalism
By 2040, we leave behind neoliberal policies and move towards economic and political organization in support of the common good. Meaning: more equal distribution, limits to growth (of individual companies), fair taxation and curbing practices that lead to exaggerated pursuit of self-interest to the detriment of economic equality and the environment. I would like to see a stronger European government, that is less influenced by lobbying and breaking away from particracy and ideological dogma's. Also, central banks should be governed by democratically chosen representatives, instead of anonymous economists and officials.
As a society we move beyond the neoliberal hegemony that sells us ideas of absolute individual freedom, which leads - I believe - to egoism and the pursuit of individual wealth. Our culture will be centered more around the interests of the community and human values.
An effective EU (Tehokas EU)
A democratically elected government of 1/20 currentestä the administration of civil servants. The Commission, various parliamentary assemblies and staff have been removed. The EU complies with itself än säntöjä its leadership is known in the world.
Extended life
see a future where people live in two domains, the physical and the metaverse. The metaverse will have much more relevance in the future. In some ocasions, it will have prevalence regarding the physical world.
The union between AI, Virtual Reality, Metaverse, Augmented reality will bring a new dimension in human life, even in longevity.
Regarding the longevity, some of us will life as an avatar in a metaverse characterized by several companies that provide that service.
Better future = more friendly labour market for young people
The future centred on the young generation of Europe. A better future means for me better chances for young people to develop their potential, give them more chances to gain a new experience.
This topic has a personal important to me: I am 23, a recent graduate of the MA studies (European Public Affairs). I am an enthusiastic and proactive person. Since my MA graduation in the summer 2021, I have struggling to get a full-time job. I have submitted a lot of applications and all failed (despite my profile fit a vacancy requirements and desirable competencies. The major reason behind this problem: according to the recruiters, I don't have "relevant years of experience".
The important point to raise here is: how young people (graduates) can have "relevant years of experience"?
To possess these relevant years of experience, young people need get a chance to gain after graduating their studies.
Life in harmony and sustainability
Life is good, better than ever before. We live in a community and environment where sustainable food, transport and housing are the new normal. There are incentives for these sustainable modes of living, making it clear that non-sustainable options are more expensive and not done. I see more co-housing projects with intergenerational families who feed themselves from nearby CSA-farms and have access to public transport and good cycling routes; more tele-working to increase quality time at home; preventive health-care focusing on boosting our immune systems, improving flexibility, and healthy diets; far better access to mental health (preventive through meditation, yoga, etc. and access to personal development workshops, and reactive with a better offer of holistic approaches to psychotherapy). We have a multi-coloured community based on solidarity between those who have and the have nots, autochthones and immigrants.
Europe and its countries reborn
I would like that in 2040 we have more resources available than today (not less, as some progress haters try to convince the people of), people have higher purchasing power, the US is gone from Europe and democratic freedoms are upheld and expanded (no such things as vax passes, arbitrary anti-free speech laws or handling of ordinary citizens like criminals).
Authoritarianism is on the rise and unfortunately the people are accepting it out of fear for their health, which has served for politicians in power to seize the opportunity to erode the democratic process. Citizens' reaction is being like the slow-cooking frog fable: while thinking it's in a comfortable hot spring, in reality slowly cooking over a gentle burning fire after a while, the frog realises that it's being cooked, but it's already too late to jump from the pot.
Find something you love to do – and pay for it (Βρες κάτι που να αγαπάς να κάνεις - και να πληρώνεσαι γι αυτό)
In 2040 I imagine and I hope that more and more people have found and earned a job that really loves them. Not to work with expatriation and with a sacrifice, not to feel wasting half of their lives simply because they have to survive, to stop waiting from the morning to arrive in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday, and so on, to wait every day (either on a working day or that) with the same appetite and passion for their work that they would find in, for example, a hobby. This should be achieved through real investment and engagement with children and young people since yesterday, by effectively integrating vocational guidance into secondary and tertiary education. By constantly reviewing and updating all existing and emerging jobs (university or non-orientation) and their respective lifestyles, personal analyses and psychological tests with a view to proposing alternatives for each individual, depending on their personality and irritation. But even for adult workers/unemployed/pensioners at all ages, there should be guidance structures for anyone who wishes to follow another path, operating according to the same criteria, while at the same time providing advice and an action plan to move from one object to the next.
Tough but not impossible
There is no worry about survival, because the essentials like healthcare, education, and housing are public and free. There is universal basic income. Immigration processes are simple and straightforward and not punitive. Everyone has access to green spaces and allotments and neighbours gather to work on those, and party, and share. Energy is 100% renewable.
Stewards of the Earth
A future where humans live in harmony with nature, and where sustainability is not connected to economic growth and development, but human and environmental well-being. I wish to see a future where governance is fair and sustainable, and reflects the human interconnectedness with nature. Nature should not be the backdrop against which human activities develop.
