Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Informed society (Sąmoninga visuomenė )
Informed society (Sąmoninga visuomenė )
A problem & &locality, which suffers from viescaron’s interest in systemic disorder because people do not speak. A better future would appear when a & education system is in place, laying the foundations for people to live in communities, agree, solve problems together, with the ability to live between different perspectives, religions.
A green, peaceful and connected Europe
A green, peaceful and connected Europe
My Europe in 2040 feels a bit like the Jetsons but in green & European: society has embraced further digitization without losing touch of the humane aspect and despite of costs, managed to make a switch in climate policy during the last 20 years. Streets and gardens show a variety of plants with some insects happily buzzing around. Though welcomed in the beginning, electric cars will still have to adhere to the true heroes of the street: pedestrians and bikers. Cafés have wonderful terraces inviting people to enjoy life in the city, town or village. Trains are connecting Europe better and quicker, not just between capitals but also between towns. People have European passports but then again, showing these for travelling are not necessarily needed as freedom of movement is enjoyed across the Union. Europe just passed a political milestone by adopting a European constitution and by officially becoming a federal state. The elections of the European Parliament who by now can also submit legislative proposals have become quite contended, as citizens from Norway over the United Kingdom to Cyprus were able to watch debates, inform themselves of the different parties and vote for any European. Similarly, news covers European politics as soon as you switch on your screen. When teachers explain to their students in European civic education class that the elections used to limit themselves only to candidates from one country, they're met with bewildered confusion. People grow up learning their mother tongue and English, and many speak more - the multilingual way of living is something that attracts many people to live in Europe.
Respect for all
Respect for all
One of the key policy issues that interested the population in Europe before the pandemic was migration. Particularly, in Belgium, the government fell in 2019 because a majority in the parliament without the country's largest party at the time voted to ratify the UN-Migration pact (Marrakesh pact). I believe that we, as Europeans, cannot be proud of our economic and social successes when we are not able to treat every human being with the respect he or she deserves. It has a certain shame and hypocrisy to it. With increasing migrant flows due to instabilities in Central and Northern Africa, countries in the south of Europe and Turkey are confronted with large numbers of people looking for a brighter future. These people are often not treated in accordance with the European values and with the respect that they deserve. And, additionally, the issue is causing questionable foreign policy outcomes regarding Turkey. As a people, we need a change of mind and connotation to refugees, and arguably economic migrants. More awareness about people's backgrounds and transparency about how we treat the people in need at our borders could help in that regard. The solution I think lies not only in letting everyone enter Europe unconditionally, but also provide resources and support communities in the global South to develop themselves, and become more resilient to negative events.
ASTRALSIA (Street Salt) (ASTRALSIA (Άστρων Άλως))
ASTRALSIA (Street Salt) (ASTRALSIA (Άστρων Άλως))
I am already envisioning a prosperous, wealthy, healthy, robust, joyful and resilient society consisted by healthy, intelligent, happy people. People of all ages, sexes, sexual orientation and origins to live together and supporting each other taking advantage of the achievements of European technology and science. Young people who are open-minded and healthy (psychically, mentally, phycological), who embraced transcultural diversity, digitalization, mindfulness and green culture. Youth who have great concerns of the quality of life and care about elderly people, offering voluntary services to their city and/or neighborhood. Young people and citizens who are travel-ling, studying and working freely all over Europe and globe. Youth of Europe are citizens of the world who successfully advertise its inclusiveness, openness and simultaneously respect its roots, history and European values. Extrovert young people who are familiar and educated on European diverse cultures and legacy since primary and secondary level of education. Obligatory knowledge of Latin and ancient Greek is shielding their intelligence (SQ/QQ) in parallel with the knowledge of an Asiatic language. International philosophical lessons in curricula and in faculties facilitate their outward-looking and their relationships. Their awareness in meditation, mindfulness, risk and security culture as well. Digitalisation, AR/VR, AI, ML, QE, are enhanced their capacities to interact and communi-cate internationally with teammates, alumni and co-workers all over the world. I am envisioning a harmonized European Research area where all the education and re-search European infrastructures are working together in daily basis, on equal terms, complimentary and with solidarity, successfully for the common good. I already see the pioneer results of efficient vaccines that healing citizens from several cancer types, viruses, multifactorial diseases, biological threats etc. I see the unified cybersecurity shield all over Europe! Trust and harmonized collaboration among Member States on every topic on every exogenous and endogenous challenge. I see the spacecrafts and all the new transportation means and vehicles that operate un-der the Green policies without imposing possible pollution on the air, the sea, the earth and the underground subsoil area. I see Hyperloops to connect all the ports, airports, central terminals of European capitals and smart cities. I see a resilient, flexible unified framework for dealing with crises and disasters. I see interconnection among smart cities and smart infrastructures. I see happy people who enjoy human rights and justice, security and citizens’ protection. I see them to participate actively and pro-actively and to contribute in the daily public dialogue with policy makers and central-regional-local governments. I see hubs and spots in every corner, in public spaces and infrastructures where there are able to submit ideas, suggestions, recommendations. Connected platforms are filtering, sorting and translate these inputs towards appropriate institutional decision-making bodies. Lessons in civics, that offered in all the level of educations, embedded such a culture, a culture of engage-ment, co-responsibility, accountability, synergy, empathy and collaboration. Environmental and energy awareness and lifelong training on climate change aspects and impacts are raising the awareness that us humans we are part of the ecosystem; in our planet & uni-verse, not the top in the chain of our ecosystem. Animals’ and plants’ welfare is assured. Healthy organic food and seeds are cultivated, selected and distributed. An efficient Eu-rope that implements rational use of every type of its resources. EU remain at the fore-front of protecting data security as well as privacy and data protection of all consumers. Wellbeing, equally rights and other chance are provided and ensured for the elderly people, aging people, people with special needs and capacities. Open outdoor areas are available in order to gym and be socialized. Lifelong training and services provided in order to deal comfortably with modern technologies and high-tech tools in every dimension of their public and private life, movement, travelling and interaction. International agreements on migration and refuges, put equal, reasonable burden on MS and to all continents. Europe is a continent of inclusiveness while preserving its citizens, values and culture. Any new accession and citizenship ensure that is respecting its legacy, laws, institution, national and total borders, sovereign rights, civilization, principles, policies and wellbeing of its citizens. European water networks and borders are protected and its biodiversity too. Strong geo-political alliances with other continents ensuring its own growth and security and each one of its Member States too. EU does not accept ambiguous policies that put in risk its stability and unity. There is not multi-speed Europe or two-speed Europe, except solidarity and specialised screening of every case. Drawing lessons from history, nature and epigenetics, EU is getting up to speed, as long as is strengthening its inner structure with confidence, trust and collective wisdom. European economic, financial, legal coherence, constitutional, defence and social cohesion are jointly liable. Humanitarian Aid is offered internationally where appropriate. EU institutions and bodies, that unique institutional set-up, are working collaboratively with MS and all the stakeholders in order to setting the agenda, the law-making, policy-making and to ensuring its leading role in science, research & innovation, ensuring its future, sustainability, competitiveness, and security! It’s true, all together we can build and maintain a better, competitive, smarter, resilient and prosperous EUROPE! EUROPE, remember to look up at the stars, your own stars and not at your past! You are my/our Astralsia, the continent of Stars (pioneer achievements in earth, sky, sea and space)!
Top down versus bottom up reconciliation.
Top down versus bottom up reconciliation.
I choose to speak about a happy 2040 and not about the one I fear. If we have progressed on a path of sustainable development, it is due to far better connections between top down and bottom up processes. So far, these connections are very scarce. Decision makers at the international levels are not aware of the most pressing challenges at the local levels and vice-versa. This creates at all levels the wrong perceptions linked to "complotism" in general. The main cause of this dialogues de sourds between local and global levels of policy-making is the hierarchy between economic, social and environmental goals, actors and processes. The borders between economics, social sciences and environmental sciences and the lack of transdisciplinary culture are largely responsible for this lack of mutual understanding and consideration. My hope is that in 2040 the borders between these political and scientific silos will be replaced by an overall focus on the difference between bottom up (cacophony of actors) and top down (hierarchy of institutions with economic ones at the top) actions and the elaboration of instruments which are needed to interconnect them.
The Natural planet
The Natural planet
Nature, Healthcare and education Preventiative healthcare will be the norm. We will learn from a young age how body and nature are one. We wil learn how our body and nature work; how it will naturally will grow and stay healthy. We will learn to experience what is all ready here and how we can live in the flow of changing nature and bodies. Normal (healthy) nature means normal ( healthy) bodies means normal (healthy) lives. Now, education is geared towards focussing on change and succes. Making things 'better', different. In the future we will have become aware and experienced that all we have to do is look what is allready naturally here and 'work' with nature and life itself. This will 'solve' a lot of problems we face today like climate change and all stressrelated illness to name just two. We will stop working hard, go with the flow en enjoy life on this beautiful planet. :)
A stronger union, a better future for all (Μεγαλύτερη ένωση, καλύτερο μέλλον για όλους)
A stronger union, a better future for all (Μεγαλύτερη ένωση, καλύτερο μέλλον για όλους)
I imagine a future where the European Union is at the forefront of ensuring human rights and a decent quality of life. Cooperation between countries in many regions such as research, education, defence and security, tackling global challenges (such as climate change) will be improved and deepened. In general, it will appear more frequently with one voice in foreign policy, but diversity will be respected.

Embrace diversity
Embrace diversity
Giving young people the opportunity to meet each other across Europe, to live together, to share, to learn, ... is crucial to strengthen Europe as a community of people and to make young people embrace diversity (so much needed in times of more and more polarisation). By 2040 each youngster has the right for a personal EU mobility budget which he/see can use to go to another European country to live a European mobility experience. This mobility budget builds further on existing EU programmes such as Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps, but is enormously scaled-up. by 2040 it is a normal practice to make use of this practice to support a learning experience in the field of volunteering, studying, exchange, solidarity project, etc., based on own needs. Inclusion is at the core of this programme, i.e. EVERY young European can benefit from it. Extra support (on different levels) is offered for young people with fewer opportunities. Green travel is fully encouraged.
Fair, fun and future-proof Europe
Fair, fun and future-proof Europe
In 2040 Europe is a strong, interconnected and socially just union of smartly specialised states. It has its focus on sustainable technological solutions and on a new economic system, taking into consideration social basic needs of its citizens as well as environmental boundaries. West Balkan countries are members of the union and immigration is fairly treated among all members. Integration is based on increased education and a basic income. New jobs have been created in the digitalised and green economy and unemploymend among young people is decreased to a minimum.
I have a dream (I have a dream)
I have a dream (I have a dream)
A space of peace; by means of a Europ &D; A Europe less stunted towards l &DY, respectful of the environment o &DY common cement would be the enhancement of European culture and heritage. Focus on a number of values that are the foundations of our DEVELOPMENT DEVELOPMENT family, Professionation, Work, Culture, Libert Prosperity of worship and pens, living together, respect for the institutions, promoting our environment, opening up to the world... a Europe that is more turmoil towards men than towards l &DY DEVELOPMENT.
