2040's EU: The true and welcoming land of opportunities

I hope and expect that our empathy for those from afar will increase in the next 20 years, and the international mobility of vulnerable people will not be as difficult and exhausting as it is today.

On the one hand, I would like 2040 to be a year in which those who are forced to flee their homes due to human or climatic catastrophes do not face unnecessary obstacles in their flight, resulting from prejudice and discrimination. I close my eyes and I see reception centres which respect and promote human rights, politicians that do not trade with border control measures, administrations that protect vulnerable people, laws that do not curtail human rights under any pretext or justification, and judicial systems that do not deviate from such red lines.

In addition, I also hope that those who cannot develop their full potential in their home country will be able to access the facilities we have in Europe, either to bring that talent back home or to stay in the EU. At present, the legal pathways to access the EU territory are mainly focused on people with higher education, entrepreneurs or people with some purchasing power. However, I believe that the ideal is to open up more circular migration channels through which those who do not have much can have a better future. This is not only "in our interest" because it would reduce irregular immigration, but I believe it should be an obligation, as a significant world power.

In my vision of an ideal 2040, mobility should be open to all - not a headache for those who need to flee or a utopia for those who cannot afford it.

2040
As we entered 2025, I wasn't particularly optimistic about the state of the planet. We faced huge challenges with climate change, plastic pollution & biodiversity loss and species extinction. Despite the challenges, we managed to get a plastics treaty adopted where it was decided to reduce the production of new plastic. The negotiations were tough and the big oil companies were very much against it, but pressure from grassroots groups ensured that the treaty was adopted. Today, we use many more natural and more recyclable materials. Plastic is no longer the norm that we throw away after use. The agreement on plastics was the start of the push to reduce the use of fossil fuels. Many cities pushed for better living conditions and after a few years, several major countries began to make more constructive proposals to reduce greenhouse gases. Air quality in major cities has improved and this has helped to reduce the number of people falling ill with respiratory infections in cities. We still have a big task in cleaning up plastic pollution. Nature must also continue to have time to recover after so many years in decline. We have slowed down the emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, but the effects are not yet so clear. However, I am pleased that we are on the right track.

Ekologija
I envision a 2040s where energy is completely clean and accessible to all. The world has moved towards sustainable energy sources - solar, wind, nuclear fusion - and cities and villages have energy autonomy. What does this look like? - Homes and buildings are equipped with advanced solar panels and local hydrogen fuel cells. Each building generates its own energy, so electricity grids have become decentralised. - Transport is fully electric and runs on renewable energy. There are no noisy engines on the streets and no exhaust fumes. - Industry and agriculture use circular economy principles -

The world is full of peace and is not rushing at the same pace as before. A 4-day work week is introduced to have more time for oneself, family or friends. People are less stressed and consequently happier. Everyone can afford a little luxury and salaries are not as varied as they are now.

Europa unita
United Europe. I would like there not to be so many armies with so many individual state expenditures but one European army. Also I would like to eliminate the duplication of law enforcement agencies that continually get in the way by having for the Italian state a duplication in commanders etc. A European salary system and not of each state. In short if we are Europe we must have common intentions, otherwise we dissolve Everything.
