People in Latvia have never lived as well as they do now, we have real freedom and everyone has the opportunity to prove themselves in different fields. That is why I am very worried about the war in Ukraine and the fear of the world being redivided between two superpowers; my parents suffered the consequences of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and I do not want to see Pact No 2. That is why I hope that the European Union will be able to help Ukraine make a just peace, and that my Latvia will be an independent country within the European Union. Nobody in the world is eternal, and in 15 years' time I myself will have passed away, and many national leaders will have passed away, including Putin and Trump. Putin will die under mysterious circumstances, his associates will be tried at The Hague, Russia will pay reparations and compensate Ukraine for the damage it caused, Ukraine will have healed the wounds of war by 2040, old ruins will have been demolished, new cities will have been built - some on old ruins, some on other sites. In Latvia, the forests will grow green, as they do now, with cereals, rape, buckwheat and various vegetables. Finally, the nation will not be so divided into two camps, the Latvian language will have gained a stronger position. Russia will no longer threaten the Baltic States or other EU countries, because their people will know the truth. The priority of the countries will be the welfare of the people and the preservation of the environment, but not in such a drastic way as planned by the establishment. I would very much like to see the collection and disposal of waste sorted out, for countries to take care to remove waste islands from the oceans, to take care to preserve the diversity of plant and animal species. In Latvia, people will have better medical care, a better tax system and better pensions. Am I fantasising too much? I am 77 years old now and have seen a lot of good and, unfortunately, a lot of bad. I would like future generations to live in peace and under just laws, without harming other peoples, animals and nature.
