Summer is in full swing: lush green all around, countless birds are singing, the meadows are full of flowers again, just like in my childhood, and bees and other insects are buzzing around. In towns and in the countryside, people near and far have come together to celebrate Midsummer by lighting bonfires, playing games, singing Ligo songs and dancing dances on Midsummer's Eve. This tradition, passed down from generation to generation, is still alive, and it is a pleasure to see that gradually people of other ethnicities who have made their homes with us have also joined in the celebrations, and on this day, more than others, understand why we are the way we are, and what we hold dear. Midsummer night is crisp and dew covers the ground, as the very dry and dry days of summer are yet to come and it seems incredible that in just a few months the ground will again be covered with a thick layer of white snow. People seem to be less happy now. Times are changing and everyone is freer to be who they want to be, to do what their heart is in and to raise a family without worrying about the turmoil around them, how to pay the bills, buy food, buy a home, or what it will be like to grow old. We are one big family again and no neighbour is a stranger. We look after everyone in our neighbourhood and know that if we need them, they will look after us. We realise that everything in the world is connected, we are wiser, with more zeal and idealism. We believe in ourselves and trust in each other.
