The United States of America after failed attempts by its presidents to annex Greenland, Canada, Mexico and other countries of the world has collapsed economically. Their products no longer resonate in the world. Hollywood tainies and their writers in the prose of a third grader are not even heard. The rest of the world is again appreciating the classic great directors like Bergman, Godard, Dreyer and young directors who have now emerged and their readings range from Flaubert to Beckett to Fosse. The new superpower is now China, but it does not intervene politically in the rest of the world. Since the collapse of the Americans the world has gained a much higher level of education and culture. This has led to a flourishing of the arts and letters. A new, shall we say, renaissance, but this time on a global level. Eventually shortly after 2040 China, and while it has already bought up all the sovereign debt of the United States, which is now unable to get involved financially, gains control of the United States and makes it their protectorate. The future now looks very optimistic.
