The theme I want to talk about for the year 2040 is freedom and equal opportunities. By 2040, Europe should securely guarantee freedom and equal opportunities for all its inhabitants in all areas: in terms of gender, education, mobility, access to medical care, government support, religion, occupations, physical disabilities, etc. It cannot be absolute freedom, because everything must go in respect to the fellow man, but the opportunities must be equal for everyone. That means that the government must create a form of deliberation that approaches democracy, but does not necessarily have to be exactly the same ? Forms or variants of democracy can be devised that refine and eliminate the inconvenients, such as blocking mechanisms by small minorities or by the super-rich, fragmentation of the political landscape that paralyzes national government for too long and so on. Equality does not mean that everyone should have or get the same thing, but that better balances are found, including the containment of profitariat. Equality also means thinking that extreme (and therefore unequal and unfree) thinking polarizes and actually puts a brake on freedom and equality. In this way, we can eliminate anomalies and injustices in society and find a better balance to really get along with everyone, regardless of disagreements or views.
