For a better sustainable governance in Europe and in the World

In 2040, the world will be a completely different place: climate change and biodiversity loss will have huge consequences on the societies in "third world countries", but also in industrialized countries with higher standard of living. Droughts, the rising of sea levels and forests fires will have a major impact on the world's GDP. This is why the United Nations will decide to suggest an upheaval of its climate governance: the outcomes of the Conference of the Parties (COPs) based on the UNFCCC will be binding. The IPCC will have a bigger role of advisors. The International Monetary Funds (IMF) will be turned into a "climate bank" on the model of the European Investment Bank and will lend money to countries which suffer the most from climate change. This money will tackle asymmetric schocks and will be used for climate change mitigation projects. Finally, all the major UN agencies, like the World Trade Organization, will work closer together to abide by the UN sustainability goals.

In Europe, a more integrated Europe will be a leader on the world stage to underpin this new climate governance. The European Green Deal will enable the EU to turn its economy into a greener one with very high value added. Thanks to comprehensive policies related to the development of renewable energies, energy efficiency and mitigation of greenhouse gases, the objective of climate neutrality is within reach by 2050. A European government with a stronger European Parliament will a have a decisive say on the global climate governance and will push for more ambitious policies throughout the world. The possibility of imposing sanctions to countries which don't respect the principles of the climate governance.

Those massive changes would have never happened without the huge mobilization of the civil society all around the world, not only in Europe and North America, but also in mediatically less exposed countries in Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

I envision 2040 as a time when nature and technology exist in harmony. Cities are green, full of old trees that have been preserved and carefully tended, and people are aware of their value not only ecologically but also culturally. The oak trees that were once inventoried are thriving, forming an unbroken ecological network that supports biodiversity. Conservation is no longer just an isolated project, but a way of life, integrated into urban planning and everyday decisions. Libraries remain important cultural and educational hubs, combining physical and digital experiences and fostering meaningful communication. Sustainable lifestyles are becoming the norm, with renewable energy, green transport and responsible consumption. Knowledge sharing between countries is seamless, allowing people to learn from each other. This is a future where respect for history, nature and knowledge creates real progress.

Мирен живот, свързан повече с природата
People have come to their senses and have stopped fighting wars, started protecting nature, planting trees and not polluting the environment. I hope my heirs don't eat insects and worms, but real food grown on farms.

Европа на бъдещето
In 2040, Europe is a continent of innovation, sustainable development and high quality of life. After years of technological advances and environmental responsibility, cities are greener, transport is more efficient, and climate problems are significantly mitigated. The transport of the future In big cities, traffic is almost entirely autonomous. Magnetic levitation trains connect European capitals at speeds of over 600 km/h, making travel fast, comfortable and environmentally friendly. Flying taxis, powered by hydrogen and electric batteries, offer an alternative to traditional transport, while private internal combustion cars have long been banned. As a result of these changes, noise pollution has decreased and the air in cities is significantly cleaner. Climate change Following decisive action to limit carbon emissions, Europe is among the first regions to achieve carbon neutrality. Cities are covered with 'green roofs' that absorb CO₂ and reduce the need for air conditioning. The transition to renewable energy is complete - solar panels, wind turbines and fusion reactors power the entire continent. Reforestation and the use of innovative carbon sequestration methods are helping to balance the climate. Technological advances Artificial intelligence and robotics have streamlined industry, healthcare and education. Doctors are using nanotechnology to treat diseases that were once deadly, and virtual reality has been integrated into the education process. Every citizen has access to personalised digital services that make everyday life easier and improve quality of life. This Europe is an example of sustainable development and harmony between man, nature and technology.
