National education would have completely disappeared, to be replaced by a system of "free" childcare, where children would have access to tools (books, etc.) as well as workshops, places and materials, for tinkering, cooking, etc., and where they could carry out the projects that interest them, relying on the adult resources around them to teach them how to manage and gain self-confidence. I'm thinking of Summerhill-type schools or democratic schools where everyone can be welcomed without financial considerations. I think that today's schools are dragging young people down by not respecting their deepest aspirations, and I'd like children in 2040 to really be at the heart of their education, and no longer cohorts into which academic knowledge is injected. I want this respectful education to be open to all.
