Individual aspirations have given way to a collective, voluntary dynamic. Everyone is involved at his or her own pace, providing help, a gesture or time for an environmental or social cause. The economy is no longer based solely on personal enrichment, but values work and investment.

In the 2040s, advances in medicine enabled AI to create cocoons where patients could receive treatment and get their bodies back in tip-top shape. Market gardening and animal husbandry were revamped to provide the population with as much healthy food as possible. The development of renewable energies reduced pollution. A worldwide policy of birth control has been introduced.
