By 2040 we will finally be rid of fossil fuels, both homes and businesses can meet their energy needs themselves. In the past 15 years we have accomplished a lot in the field of sustainability. In addition, more trees have been planted and more places have been designated as places where nature can take its own course.
Our food is becoming more local, and supermarkets are trying to stock with homegrown produce/groceries/fruit whenever possible.
Children now get a standard healthy school lunch where sandwiches are not the most important part.
Wars are over and our defense budget is lower in 2040 than it is today.

I would like to be in a civilization where the family is the center of the life. The most important is the family. Every body in the family taking care of the other. No more nursing home, but the older will be safe at home with the youngest looking for them. The eldest would take care of the youngest too: no more nannies or childcare. And the one of the family who cannot work outside the home would take care of the cooking : no more bad food and health problems...

We should, as humanity, constantly work on this so that relationships and marriages can manage to survive for years despite problems. Another issue will be the ubiquitous humanoid and other robots. Cars controlled remotely from a phone and watch is a matter of time, a gardener or a cashier in a store will become a relic of the old world. Much will change if not everything. But the world will still remain a beautiful place full of greenery, flowers and colors, but there will be various agglomerations and cities without a shred of foliage and trees, just concrete and buildings.

There are no more cars in Germany's inner cities and the cycle paths are safe and well developed. Everyone is in work and people are balanced and friendly.

All major cities with about 250 000 inhabitants should be connected to such a network.
Currently you lose many hours by constantly changing trains , so people take the plane.
The current night trains are a start but the length of time is still far too long.
