Life in Europe in the year 2040 has hopefully moved on for the better. There will be no war zones in Europe or the rest of the world - all international and local conflicts will find a reasonable solution, perhaps with each party reaching a consensus. The European Union, in cooperation with other countries of the world, has been able to initiate projects that help solve many climate problems, saving the planet Earth and its resources. Furthermore, as a people, we have reached the basic form of democracy, where the voice and opinions of the people are truly heard and politicians and government work together to make it a good place for people to be together. This also means that there is a particular emphasis on equality, both in terms of gender and in economic and health terms. Every person's rights are protected and safeguarded, but every violation is also 'held to account'. The world is a safe place, where both nature and people are protected.

In 2040, greenery is everywhere. Nature has returned to our cities, thanks to our ecological policies. The far right will no longer be present, and everyone will care about the climate. In fact, we've come a long way in that respect, because everyone is now careful about what they consume and what they do. We consume in short circuits and organically. People care about others, and not as they used to with the extreme individualism that almost tore us all apart. Minorities also have more rights, and everyone is accepted! Women are no longer invisible in our previously patriarchal society. Citizens and scientists have been able to make their voices heard, and politicians have had no choice but to follow their advice in their projects.

I envision a free society that respects all people, where discrimination no longer exists, where LGBTQ+ people no longer feel fear, and where they are free to travel with their children, to live and create. I envision a society where there is no room for inequality, where sexist jokes are taken as seriously as any other attack, where women truly have equal opportunities. Where politicians and public figures show respect for people, and where educational institutions no longer contain topics that are uncomfortable to talk about. Across Europe, wherever they live, whatever their gender, race, religion, health, gender identity or sexual orientation, whatever their background, they feel safe, dignified and respected. Imagine how that respect for each other allows people to create, work, dream and achieve their dreams freely - with economic prosperity, a willingness to share and help each other, people's trust in government, and security - because every citizen believes and wants to defend, even if it means by force of arms, his or her country.

A future characterized by solidarity and caring, where the capitalist consumer society has been partially replaced by a society where caring for each other is a priority. A utopia to change society before 2040 but hopefully we can take some steps in the right direction. A society where both rich and poor have access to good healthcare and education. Taking care of each other and this planet gets more focus than fighting over land.
