We are more aware of the impact on the environment around us and are also much better at reducing that impact significantly or even barely present. This has made our lives much nicer. In addition, financial solutions such as basic income have emerged so that everyone can have a certain degree of good and healthy life without the stress of being short of money.

Europe has renewed the values it has built over centuries. It is a world of truth and justice. Everyone is in their place and doing their job with integrity, from the common worker to the highest authorities. There is mutual respect and cooperation between countries. There is no hatred, no military conflict anywhere. Nature is preserved without harming people. Children and the elderly are loved and cared for. Families with children are supported, provided with housing, transport, free education. Culture and art are based on values and virtue. Tickets for events are affordable for all. People's rights are ensured and respected.

In 2040, everyone lives in peace with each other. People finally come to realize that the brains they have been given set them apart from most other animals. Consequently, they behave accordingly and live peacefully with each other. The imperialists at the top of society have been driven out and replaced by people who have humanity and the planet's best interests at heart.

You ask us to recount a day in 2040 when we struggle to look beyond a week. What can one imagine of the near future, projecting the current state of things? It's really complicated. I can hope for a more compact European Community that exists and is less and less under the influence of the United States. I can hope for a better Israel than the one that acts with atrocious violence against the Palestinians today. Hope. Two thoughts out of all, with certainty it will not be so. I see a catastrophic future and fear for my children.
