The war in Ukraine ended in 2025. In peace, Russia was committed to war reparations and retreated within its own borders. The popularity of populists was falling at the same time, and people were no longer gullible fools relying on false promises and lies. Trump had fallen ill in 2025, and in the U.S., the crimes of his regime were uncovered and led to new elections. Trade relations in the world had returned to a time of peace and human rights were better respected. The status of the Palestinians had also improved with the advent of their own state in 2026.
The lives of ordinary people had been improved by the revolution created by artificial intelligence. The power of internet search engines had crumbled as the search diffused to small servers and open programs. Industrial automation had taken a leap and production required even less labour. In many countries, working time was reduced and people spent their increased free time on various hobbies and studies. Travel had decreased somewhat and slow travel by sailing ships and sun trains was in fashion.
Inequality among people was reduced. Extreme riches and their use of power were curtailed by laws and regulations. Overconsumption had gone out of fashion and moderation was popular overall. The energy was largely produced by wind and solar power, and nuclear energy was also used. No new sources of energy had yet been developed, but the efficiency and energy savings of the former had been greatly improved. Attempts were made to restore nature, but too large a population still limited recovery.
All in all, life was about the same as 15 years earlier, just much calmer and more rational.
