2040 could be a very different world from today, depending on how we advance in technology, society and the environment.

In 2040, I live in a United Europe where the current nationality borders have been erased, and are regional borders instead. From north to south, and from east to west, we are connected by high-speed railways that allow us to travel from northern Sweden to southern Europe and vice versa in less than 24 hours. Prihodnost evrope naj bi bila svetla, vendar se zeleni prehod zmeraj bolj pozna na naših denarnicah, ki so že drugače tako napadene od infllacije in t.i. shrinkflacije. Kupna moč pada iz dneva v dan, srednji sloj izpareva, počasi in konstantno. Politika EU vodi vse po domače povedano v rit. Zmeraj bolj so zaščitene manjšine, domačini zmeraj izvisijo pred prišleki. Za leto 2040 si lahko samo predstavljamo kakšno postapokaliptično utopijo, kot jih poznamo iz mnogih survival games. Nebi me čudilo, če bi za novi blatnik na motorju mogel plačati mehaniku z kakšno čudno valuto, kot je na primer 10 palcev, ki so nekdaj pripadali rivalski tolpi. Prihodnost evrope bo zelo temna.

Absolūtais vairums cilvēku apzinās no kādas tumsas un briesmām ir sanācis izvairīties un ir pateicīgi izlēmībai, drosmei un empātijai, kas šo ir ļāvušas paveikt. Tāpat ir audzis patiess patriotisms un kopienas sajūta, kas vēsturiski manā valstī, īpaši lielākās pilsētās, ir bijis problemātisks padomju laikam raksturīgās gļēvulības, represiju un apolitiskuma dēļ. Beidzot ir izdevies ierobežot alkohola un azartspēļu lobiju. Es gribētu, lai šajā nākotnē tiek saprasts, ka uzlabot savu kopienu un vidi var tikai sniedzot kādu ieguldījumu vai upuri paši. Es gribu, lai cilvēki iegulda sevī, un viņu apkārtējie no tā saņem dividendes. Es ceru, ka sirsnība, radošums, cieņa, iejūtība un rūpes būs ne tikai epizodiski atzītas, bet fundamentāli svarīgas īpašības mūsu sabiedrībā. The future I see will be cleaner, less industrialized and more respectful of planet earth. Life won't have changed much, but I imagine more sharing, less war, more respect and living together. Supplements will play an important role, given the problem of altered and less nourishing foods. Polluting sports will no longer be very important, and snow tourism will have disappeared due to global warming. I think there will be more natural disasters too.
