By 2040, my life and that of my community could be much more sustainable, comfortable and technologically advanced. One area that is particularly close to my heart is the environment-friendly urban environment.

I can imagine a future where:

Cities are green and smart – every street has a lot of greenery, vertical fences and roofs are covered with plants that clean the air and reduce heat islands. The streets are primarily designed for pedestrians and cyclists, while self-driving electric means of transport ensure fast and comfortable movement.
Energy is 100% renewable – all electricity comes from solar panels, wind farms and innovative energy storage solutions. Houses produce their own energy and use smart systems that keep energy and water use to a minimum.
No waste – the circular economy is the norm where all materials and products are recyclable or biodegradable. Every home and business follows the "zero waste" principle.
Food is local and healthy – cities have automatic greenhouses and community gardens that offer fresh produce. Artificial meat and other alternative proteins have become commonplace, reducing the environmental impact of livestock farming.
Healthcare is preventive and personalised – genetic engineering and artificial intelligence allow early detection of diseases, and treatments are tailored to the genetic profile of each individual. No one needs to wait to see a doctor, because health monitoring is constantly carried out using smart devices.
