In 2040, I wake up in my home in Stockholm, a city that has undergone major changes over the past 25 years. I look out the window and admire the green roof gardens and solar panels that adorn every building. The city has become a model for sustainability and innovation.

After breakfast, I take my electric bike to work. Bicycle paths are wide and safe, and the air is clean thanks to the strict environmental laws introduced in the 2030s. On the way I pass several parks where people enjoy the morning sun, and I notice how much greener the city has become.

At work, a research center for renewable energy, I am working on a project aimed at improving the efficiency of solar cells. I remember how, in the 2020s, Europe started to invest heavily in renewable energy and how it led to a reduction in CO2 emissions and an increase in energy security.

After work, I meet my friends at a local market. We talk about how technology has changed our lives, from smart homes to advanced medical care. We also discuss social changes, such as increased gender equality and inclusion, which have made Europe a fairer and more harmonious place to live.

When I go home, I think about how much the world has changed since 2025. I feel hopeful for the future and proud to be part of a society that values sustainability, innovation and human rights
