It’s November 14th in 2040. We are in full preparation of the Memorial Celebrations of 20 years, since the third and most devastating corona wave came along in Germany and undermined the social cohesion and peace in the country. Some hard and violent years followed, but it’s good to look back on the past 15 years, when step by step we got to where we are now. YES, there was some more technological development, but it was by far not what saved us and brought the turn. Too limited are the necessary ressources, to unevenly distributed. The globalised economy didn't get back to where it was before 2021, just because ressources were short of supply.
It takes some years of hard learning, but around 2026 the debate turned more towards the economic structures: money, growth, inequality... Common welfare instead of profit making becoming common ground for all political parties. After years of Sstagnation and Degrowth, which had devastating effects, it was clear, that economy needed to be organised differently, such that it was more stable and more just for everybody. “The market” is not considered the most efficient tool for distribution any more. This myth is pushed off the Throne everything got easy. New regulations were possible: JUST and Longterm oriented distribution of ressources, unconditional basic income for everybody, serious taxing of profits and Heritages (paying taxes is considered as noble and social!), circular economomy has been developedped at an increadible speed and ingenuity... YES, the shopping orgies in the 20ies – offline and online – are long past. I'm using the same mobile for 10 years now – just as the one I had at the beginning of the century – just that the current one is a little smartphone, fixed, updated and modernised regular, but with no use of ressources or costs. How did we survive in the 20ies? (Well, quite some didn't... Coronavirus...) Health has become a great value. In the old days I could not afford to get massages or other health treatments (unless I was already very sick and the insurance payed) – today this is part of every day life. We are supposed to take care of our physical and mental health, of our social wellbeing. Must people work in the social-health sector, or the environment-health sector. So important is education and culture. Production has gone down to a stable and sustainable low level, what is needed counts, and reducing the use of ressources is the main goal. Production is not profitable anymore. The sector is partially tax funded. The subsidies are justified, in order to keep a steady and reliable supply of necessary goods and so to keep machines and knowledge up-to-date and nearby. When I compare life today with that of 2020 I very much prefer today: calmer, healthier, more soliarity, better Educated people. It’s soooo good to know, that there is a way to live well on this earth without destroying the nature of any further.

The wars in Europe are over and Russia is a decent democracy that does not threaten its neighbours. Many small and safe nuclear power plants have been built, which, in addition to solar and wind power, provide stable and affordable energy. People have moved more out of the cities and into the countryside - for those who are interested, high-speed internet via satellite is available everywhere, and drones deliver food and supplies wherever they are needed. The rail network has also been tightened up in this country, and those who need to travel daily for work can do so by train. Personal vehicles have been left for leisure and recreation. Artificial intelligence has solved a lot of complex problems, there is less pure physical work, but it has not run out, simply by using assistive devices, smart tools and machines, work can be done faster - cleaning, building, farming, animal husbandry, woodworking and other such labour-intensive tasks. The working day and week are shorter as fertility increases. And things are used for longer, so there's less to throw away or renew all the time. Where necessary, the law requires things to last longer and be of better quality, so that the economy is not based on always adding and throwing away old things - wasting.

2040 Pensioner, I live well because now they have reduced taxes on pensions. In a few years we will move to a so-called senior home, where you can live in your apartment, but be close to the retirement home where you can eat or participate in events. Right next to the home is the preschool. There is a lot of cooperation between the school and the senior/retirement home. It is good for the children to socialize with the elderly and the elderly also like to socialize with the children. Parents can rest easy, because nowadays there is an invention that registers how children are feeling. So if a child starts to feel bad because of abuse, for example, it will sound an alarm. Now children are taken seriously! The police are allowed to use the DNA register, not just on previous convictions but on everyone's DNA. So they solve many more crimes. If you are guilty of a crime if you are not a Swedish citizen, you are deported for life if the sentence is more than two years.

En bedre verden, end den vi lever i nu.
Life in 2040 has improved in several areas, looking at the individual as a human being, not based on their skin color, religion, prejudices about other cultures. Psychiatry has improved, also looking at the individual's need for hospitalization, help in their own home, support to finish school and support to find work according to ability and perseverance, as this will ensure that the mentally vulnerable can see themselves as part of the community, without being looked down upon. By 2040, no children are bullied in schools, regardless of the reason for the bullying. All children have an equal right to be themselves, regardless of their background. Children are the future hope for a better world, and that future starts now with parents. Help must be available for parents who are struggling with parenting so that they can be better role models for their children. Children must have better conditions to get help if they need it, without being stigmatized. There are very few homeless people, and solutions are being worked on for the homeless before they are "lost to society". There are places they can turn to when life changes and the need for help arises. There are very short waiting times for examinations and treatment of patients in somatic hospitals. There is time for each patient and there is no shortage of doctors, nurses and other staff in hospitals. There is a focus on helping small business owners to stay in business, as they are all needed to serve the diverse needs of the people. It is natural to be of a different sexual identity than male/female in a relationship and others are not looked down upon because they do not represent the largest group of "normality". Religions and the people who have one live peacefully among each other, without waging war or imposing their religion on others. There are no dictators in the world, and the focus is on helping the nations in need of self-help, all nations help their neighbor to a better future without hunger and war, to get an education and better opportunities to help themselves and their family. In short, a better world than the one we live in now.

Life in Europe in the year 2040 has hopefully moved on for the better. There will be no war zones in Europe or the rest of the world - all international and local conflicts will find a reasonable solution, perhaps with each party reaching a consensus. The European Union, in cooperation with other countries of the world, has been able to initiate projects that help solve many climate problems, saving the planet Earth and its resources. Furthermore, as a people, we have reached the basic form of democracy, where the voice and opinions of the people are truly heard and politicians and government work together to make it a good place for people to be together. This also means that there is a particular emphasis on equality, both in terms of gender and in economic and health terms. Every person's rights are protected and safeguarded, but every violation is also 'held to account'. The world is a safe place, where both nature and people are protected.
