Especially recently, I feel that in many areas we are not going well. However, two seem to me to be the most critical points for change: (a) the large climate chapter, and (b) the gradual elimination of active citizenship, who is interested in their fellow citizens and the community to which they belong/are part of/live.
In 2040, therefore, we will ideally have achieved any change that can still occur in terms of climate change. The temperature will remain stable at current levels, the glaciers will continue to suffer, heat fires will have been reduced, etc. The ways we have achieved this achievement will be holistic and long-term, so that they will have an effect and duration (e.g. in Paris they are trying to unlock rivers and streams in order to bring down the temperature, while at the same time taking the public through the installation of air-conditioning units, which would raise the temperature of at least 2 degrees in the city). Of course, this approach is linked to the second strand of the described future, that of active citizenship. In order to achieve this, the people of the Earth will have changed mindsets, the sense of responsibility we all have towards the planet, not only in theory, but in substance, has been strengthened. The world will have mobilised, realising that changes are not taking place by writing 2 whistle-blower paragraphs on the internet that may inspire a proportion of the world, but so far, but need concrete actions, which are organised, cooperative, shared and mass. As active citizens, we will enjoy solidarity, conspiracy and mutual support for each other’s fellow citizens, building on and strengthening the concept of public space vis-à-vis the private one. Everyone’s altruism, feeling of inclusiveness and empathy will have increased.
Every action and every attempt to make a positive change is part of a chain, where each link is linked to the others and it is impossible to fundamentally change the situation if we do not act comprehensively and through all the parts that make up the living system.
