Especially recently, I feel that in many areas we are not going well. However, two seem to me to be the most critical points for change: (a) the large climate chapter, and (b) the gradual elimination of active citizenship, who is interested in their fellow citizens and the community to which they belong/are part of/live.
In 2040, therefore, we will ideally have achieved any change that can still occur in terms of climate change. The temperature will remain stable at current levels, the glaciers will continue to suffer, heat fires will have been reduced, etc. The ways we have achieved this achievement will be holistic and long-term, so that they will have an effect and duration (e.g. in Paris they are trying to unlock rivers and streams in order to bring down the temperature, while at the same time taking the public through the installation of air-conditioning units, which would raise the temperature of at least 2 degrees in the city). Of course, this approach is linked to the second strand of the described future, that of active citizenship. In order to achieve this, the people of the Earth will have changed mindsets, the sense of responsibility we all have towards the planet, not only in theory, but in substance, has been strengthened. The world will have mobilised, realising that changes are not taking place by writing 2 whistle-blower paragraphs on the internet that may inspire a proportion of the world, but so far, but need concrete actions, which are organised, cooperative, shared and mass. As active citizens, we will enjoy solidarity, conspiracy and mutual support for each other’s fellow citizens, building on and strengthening the concept of public space vis-à-vis the private one. Everyone’s altruism, feeling of inclusiveness and empathy will have increased.
Every action and every attempt to make a positive change is part of a chain, where each link is linked to the others and it is impossible to fundamentally change the situation if we do not act comprehensively and through all the parts that make up the living system.

In 2040, greenery is everywhere. Nature has returned to our cities, thanks to our ecological policies. The far right will no longer be present, and everyone will care about the climate. In fact, we've come a long way in that respect, because everyone is now careful about what they consume and what they do. We consume in short circuits and organically. I envision a free society that respects all people, where discrimination no longer exists, where LGBTQ+ people no longer feel fear, and where they are free to travel with their children, to live and create. I envision a society where there is no room for inequality, where sexist jokes are taken as seriously as any other attack, where women truly have equal opportunities. Where politicians and public figures show respect for people, and where educational institutions no longer contain topics that are uncomfortable to talk about. Across Europe, wherever they live, whatever their gender, race, religion, health, gender identity or sexual orientation, whatever their background, they feel safe, dignified and respected. Imagine how that respect for each other allows people to create, work, dream and achieve their dreams freely - with economic prosperity, a willingness to share and help each other, people's trust in government, and security - because every citizen believes and wants to defend, even if it means by force of arms, his or her country.

A future characterized by solidarity and caring, where the capitalist consumer society has been partially replaced by a society where caring for each other is a priority. A utopia to change society before 2040 but hopefully we can take some steps in the right direction. A society where both rich and poor have access to good healthcare and education. Taking care of each other and this planet gets more focus than fighting over land.
