In 2040 life in the world runs smoothly. Societies have learned from their mistakes and from history and no longer avoid armed conflicts, wars have given way to diplomacy that has worked to resolve conflicts in the world. Developed societies support developing societies and the world is now a place where the differences between poor and rich are shrinking, access to education, health and culture are becoming increasingly democratic, and minority rights are respected and valued as a positive and enriching sign of culture. Racist, xenophobic, homophobic commitments and policies have been left behind, and religions and peoples live together in a space of respect. The transition has been made to a green economy, where respect for the environment and nature go hand in hand with economic efficiency.
