In 2040, I wake up in a world where Europe has been able to reconcile progress with respect for nature. Cities have become green spaces, individual cars have disappeared in favor of ultra-efficient and free public transport. I take a silent aerial tram to go to work, crossing neighborhoods where the roofs are covered with shared gardens. The air is clean, temperatures are more bearable despite global warming, which we have been able to slow down thanks to courageous political choices.

Between 2025 and 2040, there were crises, but also a collective awareness. The economy has adapted, companies have had to comply with strict environmental standards, and work has evolved: less stress, more flexibility, a guaranteed minimum income for all. Solidarity is at the heart of society, with affordable housing and a better distribution of wealth.

This future gives me hope. It shows that by acting together, we have been able to transform our ways of life for a more just and sustainable world.

Public transport has switched entirely to electric vehicles and there are incredible high-speed trains that can compete with flights between major cities.

The gardens are healthy with beautiful coral reefs and full of fish. In the North there is winter with long periods of snow. Farther south in Europe there are rarer forest fires and normal amounts of rain that give good breeding. There are no climate refugees. They appreciate nature more and seek it out often. Animal welfare is also an important focus area and you eat less meat. Smartphones and computers are used less often, and you are less accessible by phone/mail both privately and at work.
