In 2040, the world is a very different place than it is today. Technology has made great strides, but not only in terms of digital and robotic innovations. What really changed was how humanity learned to live with itself and the environment. Earth, which in 2025 seemed on the verge of an irreversible crisis, has found a new balance. Between 2025 and 2040, the first major sustainable cities were born, transport became fully electric, and most homes are self-sufficient thanks to innovative solar systems and recycling systems. Climate change seemed like an urgent and still difficult problem to stop, but the green revolution that triggered in the following decades prompted governments and people to collaborate with a commitment never seen before. Energy policies have changed radically, focusing on a circular economy and ecological solutions.
What I like to think about this future is that, between 2025 and 2040, technology has not only led to innovations in the digital field, but also to a renewed awareness of our humanity. Machines have become tools at the service of the environment and society, no longer mere substitutes for man, but partners in the creation of a fairer and greener world.
