Humanity had always found a way to create war, to spew hate and be violent. That has always happend and may never truly stop. However, now, people have realised that, their personal interests set aside, a larger goal is at risk. The environment's safety has been a priority for a while now, in order to fix the irreparable damage is has already suffered. Many campaigns have been put at the store front, money has been invested, and people have finally realised that a future without protecting our planet is a future non-survivable.

Today is 17th June 2040. Today, the sun has shone a little differently. And the birds have a different song. Today, all the species of rat on planet Earth have passed away. Today, the environment has lost its function and will never be restored. Humans have become as they were before. Kind, loving, helping others in the autumn.

In 2040, I imagine a world where climate change has been slowed down thanks to a full transition to renewable energy sources and the promotion of the circular economy. Cities are green and accessible to all with advanced transport systems that reduce pollution. At the same time, technology and artificial intelligence improve people's lives by enhancing education, health and employment.

Life will certainly change significantly in the next 20 years. Machines will become even more a part of everyday life - smart, intelligent devices that will hopefully make our lives easier. Hopefully, we will find solutions to many of the problems we cannot cope with today, such as hunger, poverty. I hope that our planet will still be habitable and that the necessary resources will be available.
