In the coming years, Europe has to be a space where environmental sustainability and social equality will be deeply embedded. By then, the transition to renewable energy will have transformed the energy landscape, reducing carbon emissions and ensuring a Europe free of fossil fuels and electricity companies that monopolise energy and generate inequality and poverty. Green policies will focus on social justice, promoting the inclusion of all people, regardless of their origin, gender or economic status. Gender equality will be fundamental. Education and health will be public and of quality, being one of the fundamental elements to reduce social disparities and offering quality services for all. Cities will be designed to be more sustainable, and accessible, with green spaces, clean transport and energy-efficient housing. Europe in 2040 will be a global benchmark, where respect for the environment and human rights will be the engines of progress and common well-being.
