My day starts with the banana harvest in Horton 2040, in this idyllic picture of the future. The morning sun beats down on the walipini, where banana trees are already swaying with heavy, ripe bunches. The tropical scent fills the greenhouse as I pick the perfectly ripe fruit. Freshly picked bananas are on the breakfast table, much tastier than any imported variety. In the afternoon, we tend the walipinis with the neighbours, sharing our experiences and the fresh harvest. Even in winter, we can enjoy the taste of home-grown tomatoes, which keep the air warm despite the cold. In the evenings, we gather at the village community centre to enjoy delicacies made from local ingredients, including fruit and vegetables from our own gardens. The children are happy to play outdoors, knowing they are growing up in a healthy and sustainable environment. Transport costs and pollution are reduced and the local economy has boomed. Our community has become more cohesive and we are proud to grow our own food. Walipini is not just a greenhouse, it is a symbol of a sustainable future.
