Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Realistically utopia (Realistic utopia)
I would love to believe that people in the future will be more equal and societies will be more inclusive, so everyone would feel both possibilities and responsibilities about the world around. I hope that people will become more conscious in every sense and will stop ignoring many problems in society, politics and ecology. I also believe that people in many less democratic countries will pay more attention to politics, not to turn a blind eye to small episodes of fraud, because this will invariably lead to dictatorship, and dictatorship always leads to war. The same applies to ecology - thoughtless and unlimited overconsumption will bring us to irreparable problems and I want society, government abd business to change their mind to start acting instead of talking before it is too late, although this moment is very close. I hope that in 20 years there will be less double standards, large groups of people will not suffer because of the actions of heads of state and officials, and the world will be more united and close. It is impossible to perceive Europe or any other part of the world as detahced and isolated from the rest and less progressed regions. I would like the world to develop as a whole, and not only in parts, when more developed countries are fenced off from less developed ones. I hope that in 2040 there will be much less room for racism, sexism and homophobia, but more place for education and curiosity, when people will stop looking at each other through the prism of stereotypes and will think more about mental health.
Unfortunately, so far it seems that the world is going in a completely different direction. Perhaps, after all the upheavals and wars that are going on now, humanity will shake itself up and take the right path. I really want to believe this.
Cities for the people.
By 2040 I would like to see an improvement in the standard of living in major cities. With standard of living I mean larger public green areas, many more trees in the main city roads, and less cars in the city centers. Especially in the countries of the south, such adjustments are vital for the future. We should set a goal in noise reduction, clearer atmospheres, bigger emphasis on public transportation.
A sustainable world for everyone
We are now in 2040. Europe is a beautiful and peaceful place where all people live happily in harmony with nature. The energy is renewable and shared between people, and thanks to energetic communities it isn't centralized. Sustainable and shared public transport are accesible to everyone in every place. The model of economy is shifting towards a circular one, without overproduction and without a huge amount of waste. The old exploitative economic system, both dangerous for people and the planet is being replaced with a more ethical one. People that in the past worked in unsustainable fields (like fossil fuels) are now working in business that try to solve the damages caused by these things. Also agriculture has changed, and has become more regenerative. Thanks to veganism and artificial meat the sector of animal farming has drastically decreased and the farms left are sustainable and follow the possibilities of nature. Waste and pollutions are decreasing and extincion is stopping. Animals are taking their space and humans have relearned how to stay with them peacefully and they have restored a good relationship with the nature. The humanity is walking togheter towards a fairer and more inclusive world for everyone and restoring healty communities. Climate-caused migrations are decreasing.
Responsible and informed
The topics that I see as encompassing a lot of aspects of our life are communication and transparency. I think whether we are journalists or not, people in my country have lost the ability to communicate properly on heated topics - from climate change, the pandemic, Russia's invasion of Ukraine and etc. Discussion has become ever more difficult because of many reasons but some key ones include 1) people heavily mistaking opinions for facts; 2) people being unaware of how strong disinformation is and what are its goals 3) lack of empathy and the desire to listen, not only to express your own viewpoint and try to convince the others. Hence, whether we talk about the state of democracy, media freedom, environmental protection and how we imagine them to be better in 2040, I think an improved information space is vital to that.
A Sustainable Future For All
I envision a better future, in terms of gender equality, minority rights and social inclusion.
We also need to change our perception about the “others” and become more open minded, in order to tackle racism, xenophobia, marginalization and discriminations.
Last but not least, I imagine an environmentally friendly future, with less pollution and animal hurting.
A message for the New EUrope
I believe in an Europe of Values. A cradle of tolerance, development and education. A place where borders, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion and color are just valid opportunities of understanding the human nature and strengthening the motto that defines and unites a continent - "Unity in diversity"!
For the young generation the problems of the 20th century are no longer important, or play a little role in their day-to-day activities, constantly forgetting that atrocities like the Armenian Genocide or the Holocaust happened when our grandparents were our age. Unfortunately, the history rhythms and we are facing an illegal and unprovoked war at our Eastern border, that causes hate, fear and the death of hundreds of innocent Ukrainians and leaving a world without words.
I hope that we, the younger sons of Europe, will raise our voice for the causes of liberty, democracy and peace whenever and wherever the opportunity arises!
Stronger together !
"We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape it!" - Barack Obama;
A real trans-European transport network (Un vrai réseau transeuropéen de transport)
In 2040, the temperature of our planet continues to rise. Thanks to the environmental policies of the European Union, our transport system has evolved and many developments have taken place, including the development of electric and low-energy vehicles.
In a society where the individual needs to travel, to travel, to work or simply to see family members, the trans-European transport network needs to evolve.
Thanks to the introduction of the Interrail pass, many young people can break down the European Union to a lesser extent. This must extend to the whole population. Today, air transport is cheaper than rail and much more polluting in the European Union, but it is possible to travel by train between countries. Many people do not make this choice because the train offers longer journeys with exorbitant fares. My proposal focuses on this issue. In 2040, the trans-European transport network will offer many high-speed lines linking the largest cities in Europe. These high-speed lines on the TGV modele in France will offer a European low cost package (such as that for regional trains in Germany with the national pass at EUR 9). In order to develop mobility geared to public transport such as rail, the 2040 European trains will offer real services (comfortable chair, couchette, workspace, rest space, quiet space, buvette).
Fair progress for all
I would like to see my country (Greece) standing on her feet, creating a future that is fair and accessible to everyone. I would like to see better days at the sectors of social justice and justice system in general, public health, smart technologies, green growth, but most of all in the city life.I would like to see a more friendly city to the citizens, focused on the needs of that decade. I would like my city to be open for all who wish to offer in the prosperity of the citizens, upgrading the status of Greece in the world, so that the braindrain phenomenon to be over.
