Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Creating a shared and inclusive future for all (human & non-human)
Creating a shared and inclusive future for all (human & non-human)
I imagine a future that places where people live are inclusive for all species, and are designed through participatory and collaborative processes based on wellbeing and propesperity, rather than economic profit. I imagine a future that slowly moves away from economic growth and towards degrowth, trying to bring stability back to our ecosystems by regenerating them. I imagine a future where local government has more power, skills, and resources to care and address for the environmental and social issues rising within their communities in a democratic way. I imagine a future where everyday life is made more wholesome, by creating pockets of community, solidarity, and collective care, all the while work hours are decreased. I imagine a future where people of all backgrounds have equal rights, and where minorities are supported and celebrated. I imagine a future where the majority of local mobility happens on foot or by cycle. I imagine a future where we learn from the wisdom of our ancestors, rather than destroying indigenous communities and populations. I imagine a future where Western thought is not colonising the world, and other ways of being flourish and co-exist. I imagine a future where people's migration is not be feared, but to be welcomed. Because migration will be necessary, as we have utterly destroyed many parts of the world, making them uninhabitable.

Renewable energy resources have dominated the energy market, the fossil fuels have a very small use and a higher cost; they are only used in the less developed/less democratic parts of the world. Mining and earth's hydrocarbon extraction is also at a minimum, without loss of the quality of life, as recycling and the optimum use of materials and energy resources is widespread. The use of advanced materials, sensors and AI has automated many processes in a reliable way. The standard of life and the expected lifetime of humans has been significantly increased due to the use of new nanomedicines and diagnostics. Information technology has allowed democracy to be widely accepted, which in turn enables humans to be creative; our societies advance collaborative work and art; our cultural heritage is preserved. Wildlife has returned in large parts of the world due to the ending of most of the unnecessary human activity; advanced tools enable the safe coexistence with humans. Less stress! (Λιγότερο άγχος!)
Less stress! (Λιγότερο άγχος!)
I want a country’s minimum wage to be higher to match the quality of work provided by workers. As a result, there will be less anxiety and depression. At the same time, more belief in politics and by extension in Europe!

I hope there will be a truly inclusive society in 2040
Ownership and self-reliance within a open-minded and harsh community, where justice and equal distribution of wealth and opportunities is a reality (Eigenaarschap en zelfredzaamheid binnen een ruimdenkende en hartelijke gemeenschap, waar rechtvaardigheid en gelijke verdeling in rijkdom en kansen een realiteit is)

That everyone is back self-reliant, not always standing up to technological/digital barriers to organising their own lives to/according to their own values and beliefs. That people can develop a sense of belonging to and community in which they do not disappear anonymously. That technology is used only where it has a clear environmental and social added value. Making work more a cooperative activity in which people can be recognised for their own commitment and specific
Best intentions determine wellbeing, economic and political life.
Best intentions determine wellbeing, economic and political life.
In 2040, everyone acts upon their very best intentions for the planet and fellow human beings. “Value” is re-defined on the basis of that. Humans no longer feel the need to structure their life around activities that bring them economic value, in order to participate in this society. Rather, equity is provided in this system, in the sense that human beings all have access to high-quality education, health care, and can enjoy further human rights, as identified in the UN Charter. Furthermore, the participation in society is valued on the basis of the contribution that individuals make to this social and ecological environment. Focus on Human Wellbeing in a new economic system – a redefinition of economic value from GDP growth, towards social and ecological wellbeing takes place. Society is structured accordingly. This leads to a shift in the economic thinking, and allows for de-growth to occur. New Political System – technological innovations enable transparency and new ways of political decision-making. Political power is redistributed in a way that decisions are weighed upon best intentions, and best mid-term and long-term outcomes. Political priorities are collectively decided upon, but for sure: the ecological boundaries are not crossed. It is no longer important who holds political power, since the best intentions and collective priorities are the key within the political system. Hence, the power of the nation-state considerably declines. The agenda of the United Nations is no longer determined by the national interests of the main member states, but becomes an even better reflection of the General Will (as coined by Rousseau). Overall, I have hopes about the empowerment of technological innovations for grassroots innovation. There are many people who strive for their dreams and ideals, and it’s fascinating to see how many children at some point have the following question on their mind: how can I contribute to a better world? The changing information infrastructure facilitates a bottom-up generation of ideas in our society. Simultaneously, I feel despair for the challenges that human greed cause for humanity. Globalisation may disfavour the world’s poorest regions and spur a concentration of social and economic wealth, while the earth planetary boundaries are crossed. This can challenge the continuation of life on earth, and necessitate drastic transitions in our political, social and economic systems. Ideally, we ensure that we can progress on these transitions, before we have to experience the dire consequences of current trends in society.

Nature and would be exactly the same as it is now.... In the Posé, where I am at home: beautiful, clean, with fresh air, with still intact and intact corners, which, unfortunately, are less and less..., With a number of possibilities to breathe, to sleep in nature, to rest your eyes and spirit, and to fleeing new strengths, hills, and many opportunities for retiring with your family... I want this still in 2040!
