Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Knowingly changing the Earth for better. (Zavestno spreminjanje Zemlje na bolje. )
Knowingly changing the Earth for better. (Zavestno spreminjanje Zemlje na bolje. )
First and foremost, I want a green and clean planet. With a view to sub-engagement and effective care of our Earth, which, given our current behaviour, can be ‘perpetrated’ at any time. In particular, it would be important to consider how best to separate and reuse waste materials.
What future is a good future? (Kakšna prihodnost je dobra prihodnost?)
What future is a good future? (Kakšna prihodnost je dobra prihodnost?)
What I want to be a very relative and time-related issue. Every time I want something different, more unique, more specific, more myself. Now and for a long time, I want only peace. I want global peace. I want a peace that can be felt by all. I want a world without wars. A world without suffering. A world free from hunger. A world where everyone is a brother and a world where he thinks well.
Ordinary mornings in 2042
Ordinary mornings in 2042
7am, March 28th 2042: My personal assistant wakes me up with my favorite workday song and turns on the coffee machine. An ordinary alarm clock would perfectly do the job, but the automatic coffee machine is convenient after all. While I brush my teeth, my personal assistant displays daily news on the mirror in front of me. Scientists came up with a new way to efficiently store an infinite amount of energy. I guess we are close to reaching complete carbon-neutrality for electricity production (8 years ahead of the plan!). The next article reports that the 4-day workweek which was implemented in the EU in 2035 shows promising results. People started exercising more, spent more time with their families, attended more cultural events and participated more in local politics. I would tend to confirm it in my own case. The following article reports how the unified EU-wide social security system enables workers to swiftly move from one country to another with significantly less paperwork and administrative hurdles. I always wondered why it was not implemented earlier. The next article discusses an ongoing problem in our society. Biotechnology has enabled humans to amplify their physical and cognitive abilities. These technologies became increasingly affordable (though still quite expensive), and it led to a dualistic society. I keep asking myself what we can do about it, probably nothing. We made a lot of progress in guaranteeing and protecting freedoms to choose our life paths, education, careers, whom we love, how we dress, which god we worship and so on and so on. I guess choosing to enhance our abilities is also part of these choices. The last topic of my daily news review concerns the increase of retirement age. Apparently it's a side effect of the 4-day workweek. I guess I won't be retired before 2085 or something… But at least most bullshit jobs have been taken over by AI and automated systems and I have all the freedom to choose a professional activity that fulfills my life goals.
A healthy environment in a world of high technologies (Zdravo okolje v svetu visokih tehnologij)
A healthy environment in a world of high technologies (Zdravo okolje v svetu visokih tehnologij)
In particular, I would like to see a future where a healthy environment and nature would be ensured, while civilisation would live to high technological standards, as well as a high degree of mobility. The latter, of course, are in such a way as to be as environmentally friendly as possible and at the same time user-friendly. I imagine a better future in terms of sufficient food, evenly distributed globally, in the abundance of healthy locally produced food, in terms of reducing climate/weather extremes.
Peacrophic (Peaceful)
Peacrophic (Peaceful)
I would like that there would be no racism or no hate, and that everybody would be treated the same. I would love to have world peace, without wars and conflicts between different countries. We would all live happily together and help each other.
digitalisation (digitalisering)
digitalisation (digitalisering)
Sustainably digitally democratically developed.
Women’s future (Ženska prihodnost)
Women’s future (Ženska prihodnost)
I want a future where I am not afraid to walk out of the unenriched areas of the city. I want a future where I will be able to pass a group of men on the road and will not be uncomfortable. I want a future where almost one in three women will be victims of intimate partner violence. I want a future where there will be no insult “doing you like a girl”, where no press articles will be written about the fact that women are not part of the Olympic Games, where it will no longer be believed that women should always stay at home in kitchens and take care of their children and husband.
Reciprocity between humans and nature
Reciprocity between humans and nature
Regenerative agriculture. Deglobalisation (= local production of food, materials etc). Power of community. Respect & reciprocity for/with the natural world: nature has human representatives in decision-making: it is not anymore objectivised; it is a subject in all major decisions.
Sentient Future (Sentient Future)
Sentient Future (Sentient Future)
Sentient Future. Where inclusivity, sustainability are commonplace and democracy works like it should. Where the body and mind and regarded separate entities, but as a whole. Immersion is key.
A beautiful world (Lepši svet)
A beautiful world (Lepši svet)
It is difficult to make a change, but it is not impossible. Each of us is an important member of a large musical group, which sometimes successfully drains and, once again, on the full line “pushs”. For the future, I want everyone to be a member of this group. I would train my function well and efficiently. I would like to make every effort to ensure that the concert is as successful as possible and as much as possible in a vibrant symphony.
European digital sovereignity
European digital sovereignity
In 2040, Europeans have achieved digital sovereignity - all important digital services like search, cloud storage, messengers, social networks, video conferencing, etc. are offered from European data centers, adhering European privacy laws. This has happened after the EU decided to create a European foundation to fund free and open source software (FOSS). The foundation reached out to the European open source community, offering to host the two most-used FOSS packages in each category, plus supporting key members of the open source community (but participation in the development of this software was limited to European citizens). As a reaction to this offer, FOSS has taken a great leap and the European software has taken the lead in the world of FOSS. In addition to the services itself, supporting infrastructure such as encryption and authentication and auditing, is available as European FOSS to every citizen. For example, every citizen receives European-verified certificates for encryption of emails, messages, or storage, for free. It's European infrastructure, paid by general taxes, like streets and education. Non-European citizens may buy access to this infrastructure. In this future, Europeans may reap the benefits of computers and internet without being tracked and their data being sold by companies for company profits. Instead, the privacy of the individual person takes priority over profits.
Synergies between nature, people and the economy. (Synergie tussen natuur, mensen en economie.)
Synergies between nature, people and the economy. (Synergie tussen natuur, mensen en economie.)
A green Europe. In 2040, nature in cities, around cities, in rural areas and in nature areas. Solutions for energy, housing, transport, etc. are designed to improve nature. People value nature and want to live in places with high natural values. It is therefore also important for businesses and cities that natural values are high, as there is still a competition for talent. Businesses design green buildings and work on sustainable circular chains. People also appreciate nature because it helps keep their environment cool when it is warm and remove water from hay abrasives. Droughts are becoming less severe due to vegetation and biodiversity helping to retain water. People see the importance of nature to mitigate the effects of climate change. People feel connected to trees and animals. Watching birds is a popular hobby. People give names to the trees in their city. Nature also makes a spiritual contribution to our health, by walking, taking forest baths or swimming them in nature.
