Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Future health
In 2040 the future health as facing the chalenges of life and be content with life, will be logical for everybody. Health is related to many aspect of life. The social mental, physical and spirtual challenges will be the hollistic view on health and quality of life in all aspects. So being aware of those challenges and facing them make people more aware of the threats towards this. People have realised that climat change is threatening towards there own life, that polarisation will have an effect on many aspects of health. Health is the main focus in 2040 so we can challenge our lifes and contribute to social quality of life
Robyny’s future (Robyn's future)
I would like 2040 to be a time where we live more in harmony with nature. We find some longterm solutions to energy problems and w’re RID of our dependence on oil. The rest of society I would like to remain pretty much the same. Thero’s lot of things you can change, but maybe that’s not always something that needs to be done. Let’s keep our planet livable as long as we can, for as many of us, as harmonious as possible.
The city of the future (De stad van de toekomst)
In particular, I see the urban area as a major contributor to sustainability and health, given the profound urbanisation. We are facing a wide range of issues such as mobility and food. So how we organise our urban areas has a bigger impact. I hope that the city of the future is a place where there is no car (at least as we know it now), but where smaller city centres are connected. The 15 minutes city in its optimal form: reach everything you need in at least 15 minutes. But also many green, small urban parks, places to grow food yourself/together. By shaping the city of the future, people feel connected. With each other and their surroundings. Our environment is shaped in such a way that people experience ownership, creating other cost and benefit structures as well. It also aims to make the population healthier. Healthy outdoor air (including in cities due to low or zero emissions), many walking and cycling, and social cohesion. In my ideal city, the community is strong and people are part of strong networks.
An equal future (Tasa-arvoinen tulevaisuus)
Everyone should be. For example, children or young people would not be afraid to go to school because of bullying. Bullying would be addressed as soon as it happened. Everyone should have access to assistance if needed. No one would be fun for any reason. Everyone would be involved and no one would be left behind.
Related to each other (Betrokken op elkaar)
In 2040, we live in a ‘15 minutes’ neighbourhood where everything can be obtained. People know each other, what the other states know, and they are keen to develop and even use the differences to strengthen society. Technology is a major enabler. It makes crops available locally, thus ensuring a fair distribution and a focus on a healthy and sustainable life.
Civic expertise in policymaking and legislation
52 amended national laws, including a constitutional amendment (!) – that is the result of the Latvian public submissions system with the ManaBalss/MyVoice (https://myvoice.group/en/about-us/) CivicTech platform at its center since 2011! Such a level of public participation in policy-making and legislature can be achieved in all EU countries and also on the EU level. It will enhance public trust in the official institutions, especially on the EU level, strengthen democracy, lessen the populism influence (via quality standards and deliberative process) and diminish mutual cynicism among societies, politicians, officials and other decision-makers. It doesn't lessen representative democracy; it arguably strengthens it.
Team Education in the Schools of the Future
In my experience , when you are in an educational setting - like school for me - over time one loses the desire and drive to gain new skills and knowledge.
The school I attended was in Austria in a very rural place. They tried to up date their curriculum by including a scientific branch. Although the aim , I guess , was to appear modern, the other classes where lacking modern themes or where very depended on the class teacher if you have a good experience with the topic.
In my future school I like to see more involvement from the students what each individually wants to learn and how to learn it. Then they have arrange themselves in groups with overlapping interests. At the end of a semester they give a presentation or share their acquired knowledge with the class.
This way the students learn to form and work in teams early on. By them choosing the topics themselves, the frustration level will be lower. By sharing it with the rest of the class The teacher changes his/her/their role from a mere lecturer to more of a counsellor when problems arise or the pupils get stuck. He/She could also provide topics if the students are unsure what to work on.
Quality of living in Greece
IN 2040 I imagine Greece to be a country with more green policies when it comes to energy, architecture and production. I would like to see decentralisation of living, with more infrastructure shifted from urban areas to country side, creating smaller pockets of green cities, accessible to and for people with diverse needs and background. Athens is no longer the point of reference, nor where half the population of the country lives. Education in primary and secondary levels is more openminded, incorportated modern concepts of social justice and inclusion, technology and european identity. The main focus of governance should be placing people in its centre, offering functional solutions for quality living. Cost of living at the moment is unberable. Young people in their 20s, and 30s at the moment have not the ability to start family, bear the cost of living alone or create savings. As such, creating incentives and sustaibale living alternatives in countryside, with provision for quality living, would feed back to these issues.
