Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Clean water and air (Καθαρό νερό και αέρας)
The future we will meet in 2040 would like to include clean and healthy water and air for all. The environmental burden on natural resources and their unprecedented irrational exploitation unfortunately harms me. So I want us not to have worsened our access to natural resources. At the same time, I wish that the climatic conditions will not deteriorate much.
What I would like to improve is therefore the global management of natural resources – and in particular water and air – from a forward-looking perspective, whether direct or indirect.
Diversity and Inclusion (Diversity and Inclusion)
An improved future in which diversity would be visibly and fully accessible, when inclusion will conclude its place in daily life. Widerperspectives, defense of human rights, new ideas in every stage and part of social life/workplace to seek integrated in our living reality. Very much of social change to be a way of creating citizens of the world based on free speech, Mindset, spirit, recovering the metering of freedom!
The multi-stage declaration of the end of work (Η πολλοστή διακήρυξη του τέλους της εργασίας)
Permanent unemployment in previous decades is finally dealt with in the most reasonable way. Reducing working time to two or three hours a day or, alternatively, sporadic groups of dense, continuous work are followed by long rest periods, where individuals are identified as artists of large or small, daily arts. The uneven balance between work and slum is finally pushed back on the other side. Or rather, the duosity is extinguished. The prerequisites for this ‘Bellamy’ and ‘Morris’ mixed outrage are the promises of the new technological revolution, but they are mainly rooted in sardine societal changes. Feasible and necessary...
Tax funded productive sector (Tax funded productive sector)
It’s November 14th in 2040. We are in full preparation of the Memorial Celebrations of 20 years, since the third and most devastating corona wave came along in Germany and undermined the social cohesion and peace in the country. Some hard and violent years followed, but it’s good to look back on the past 15 years, when step by step we got to where we are now. YES, there was some more technological development, but it was by far not what saved us and brought the turn. Too limited are the necessary ressources, to unevenly distributed. The globalised economy didn't get back to where it was before 2021, just because ressources were short of supply.
It takes some years of hard learning, but around 2026 the debate turned more towards the economic structures: money, growth, inequality... Common welfare instead of profit making becoming common ground for all political parties. After years of Sstagnation and Degrowth, which had devastating effects, it was clear, that economy needed to be organised differently, such that it was more stable and more just for everybody. “The market” is not considered the most efficient tool for distribution any more. This myth is pushed off the Throne everything got easy. New regulations were possible: JUST and Longterm oriented distribution of ressources, unconditional basic income for everybody, serious taxing of profits and Heritages (paying taxes is considered as noble and social!), circular economomy has been developedped at an increadible speed and ingenuity... YES, the shopping orgies in the 20ies – offline and online – are long past. I'm using the same mobile for 10 years now – just as the one I had at the beginning of the century – just that the current one is a little smartphone, fixed, updated and modernised regular, but with no use of ressources or costs. How did we survive in the 20ies? (Well, quite some didn't... Coronavirus...) Health has become a great value. In the old days I could not afford to get massages or other health treatments (unless I was already very sick and the insurance payed) – today this is part of every day life. We are supposed to take care of our physical and mental health, of our social wellbeing. Must people work in the social-health sector, or the environment-health sector. So important is education and culture. Production has gone down to a stable and sustainable low level, what is needed counts, and reducing the use of ressources is the main goal. Production is not profitable anymore. The sector is partially tax funded. The subsidies are justified, in order to keep a steady and reliable supply of necessary goods and so to keep machines and knowledge up-to-date and nearby. When I compare life today with that of 2020 I very much prefer today: calmer, healthier, more soliarity, better Educated people. It’s soooo good to know, that there is a way to live well on this earth without destroying the nature of any further.
A happy centre (Ένα χαρούμενο κέντρο)
In 2040, the future of the traffic issue in Greece will differ. There will be more parks and gardens in the centre of cities and roads will have been reduced. The traffic will be in electric-powered cars, which will be available for hire so that every citizen can park their car and move with their rental car. The car parks will be located at the entrance to the city centre and will be available free of charge. The journey will be by electric bicycles, scooters and cars, and the money from the rental of electric vehicles will be used to maintain gardens and parks. Shops will operate easily and shop owners will use alternative energy sources for their shops. Citizens will work in decentralised businesses and the city centre will be at the moment of their day’s leisure with poles in gardens, parks, sports activities, public libraries, free chek up health for citizens, but also spaces with speeches on issues of concern to society at both economic, political and social level.
The Communication will be an action and plastic packaging will be reduced by 80 %.
Citizens will be able to feed themselves from the gardens located in the centre as there are tables and trees that produce fruit for all citizens.
There will be no homeless fellow citizens because there will be shelters for them and will meet their needs in return for working in and maintaining them in the best way. This will also be productive and living in good conditions.
With regard to technology everywhere, computers and mobile phones will be available so that at any time a citizen can contact abroad and be informed or working in a nature- and human-friendly environment.
Social empowerment (Κοινωνικη Ενδυνάμωση )
The area that I want to improve in the future is social welfare and social coexistence among citizens for collective prosperity. The world will have become empathy for its vicinity and have fought prejudices and inequalities. The State will have invested in its citizens to strengthen social awareness, with a view to the maturity of the Republic.
Abolition of communication borders (Κατάργηση των συνόρων επικοινωνίας)
The year is 2040 and the way people communicate has become easier than ever. Geographical distances have now been removed since the use of technologies such as the augmented reality allows for pragmatic communication at a level close to face-to-face communication.
A romantic future. (Ένα ρομαντικό μέλλον.)
I imagine an international environment that does not suffer from viruses and health problems. People will not lose their lives or fear it from pandemics. At an economic level I hope that the economy will recover, to an adequate standard of living for most of the population with free and active health, education, justice, leisure, activities, sport. In the field of work, I see more opportunities for young people, a higher salary that is sufficient for all activities of people without deprivation. From a social point of view, I imagine real gender equality, acceptance of all minorities and the dismantling of racism. There should be no countless reports of violence and bullying in any form; stop femicides, suicides and reduce depression and mental disorders. At the individual level, the aim of all is to improve themselves, stop criticism and reflect on solidarity and the common good.
Citizens in action (Πολίτες εν δράσει )
It is a Tuesday afternoon and everyone has been collected in the village library. The small people play a long time in the relaxation hall, while the rest of the inhabitants start the conversations. Young people continue to take stock of their proposals to make use of the hot sources, while the larger ones deal with cleaning issues and issues related to Mento the functioning of the primary school in the community. The discussions are long but effective. The proposals were recorded, discussed with the state commander of the region and approved immediately. As of tomorrow, the people who carried out these projects have been taking up a job. Village residents plan and implement on the basis of their needs and bureaucratic delays are overcome by the direct action of the community
