The most important thing is to seek global justice. This will be very difficult to achieve because people pursue individual goals. Another important issue is the climate and the environment. We must also protect this for future generations. Safety for each individual is also important. We must overcome wars and stand for peaceful coexistence. For this we must stand up for democracy, because it is the system that creates peaceful coexistence. Other social systems have not brought this, but only oppression, unfreedom, injustice and wars. I hope we will achieve some of these goals in 2040. It is my wish and I am very confident that we can do it together. Everyone has to work on the future, because only if everyone has a common goal can we make it happen.

In my perfect future, as Europeans, we live in peace with each other, not just side by side. There is no longer a war, because it is not a few who determine a country, but one who determines it together. There are no more poor and super-rich, all people can live well and freely. With energy produced by the sun, wind and hydro, not from gas or other combustion. Those who do not abide by the fundamental values must leave the community.

Sveriges satsning på ny kärnkraft under 2020- och 2030-talen har gett oss en stabil, fossilfri energiförsörjning, och elpriserna är låga. Städerna är säkra och öppna, med livliga marknader, innovativa startups och levande kultur. I Europa råder fred och samarbete. Efter turbulenta år av ekonomiska och säkerhetsmässiga utmaningar under 2020-talet enades länderna om en ny strategi: innovation, stabil energipolitik och gemensam säkerhet. Genom teknologisk utveckling och förstärkt försvarssamarbete har vi skapat en kontinent där frihet och stabilitet råder. När kvällen faller, laddas elbilar och smarta hem med ren energi. Sverige är inte bara en del av Europa – vi är en ledstjärna för framtiden. Här har vi byggt ett samhälle där innovation, trygghet och hållbarhet går hand i hand.

A better future - or as one would call it - the restoration of paradise would be the wishful idea for this planet. Finally, a human family without wars, terror, power lust, envy, hunger, corruption, religious madness or any other cinnabar that has accompanied us painfully in the last decade. Een wereld met minder drugs en criminaliteit. De stijging en de normalisering van drugsgebruik baart me zorgen. Zorgen voor mijn kinderen, zorgen voor de toekomst. Hoe blijven we functioneren als het altijd onder invloed kan zijn? Ons mentaal welzijn gaat er sterk op achteruit. Werkende in de ggz zou ik willen dat er meer gesensibiliseerd wordt en meer geld voor gezondheidszorg kan worden vrijgemaakt.

We finally manage to travel without constraints, without limitations! Air shuttles take us from one city to another in 30 minutes. We can treat ourselves with telemedicine and be assisted without queues, without making journeys of hope. We can take care of our cultural activities, creating shared and always updated products.

The planet is nice and green again without all those natural disasters that cause so much suffering. There are leaders who cooperate with each other instead of opposing each other and going to war. People read with each other and set each other free. In addition, we are advancing in technology: cars can drive independently and we are becoming more flexible in our work so that traffic jams are a thing of the past and vacations all at once are no longer necessary. I also hope that children in the Netherlands will become more equal, all receive equal education and equal opportunities.

I would be 82 years old in 2040. If I were still in this world then, my oldest two grandchildren would be 26, my middle granddaughter 22 and the youngest two 20 years old. My wish for my children, children-in-law and grandchildren is that the climate situation improves. I hope that common sense will finally prevail. Maybe then there will be a world without war? I imagine that there will only be self-driving cars. There are no more internal combustion engines. The public transport network is well developed. The research work is sensational, new technologies and achievements are constantly being developed for a climate-friendly world. That would be my vision for the future. I can't imagine anything else. I'm worried about my family and also about the whole of humanity and the animal world. More war, crop failures, water shortages, a collapse in health care...... If a miracle doesn't happen and a change in thinking finally takes place, we face a terrible future.

I wish for a world in harmony. People have learned again to focus on the important and right things. The common good has come to the fore and serious grievances, wars and poverty are a thing of the past. The world is our common good and that is how everyone treats it. We not only pay more attention to our fellow human beings, but also to our environment and do our best together - for the future of our children. They can enjoy nature to the full and discover the wonders of the world. Because healthy people can only live in a healthy world.

In 2040 I hope to have a more democratic Europe, journalists who are freer to write what they think without any criticism since today there is (in my opinion) no such freedom and we are moving towards a "soft dictatorship." A free state where non-EU people are welcomed and not locked up in "reception centers" but are given an education and since there are abandoned cottages and land, the possibility to renovate these houses and give back to the land new cultures, and also help them in their countries so that the flow is less. I would like a state without economic inequality so that there are not very poor people, there has always been wealth and poverty but it is not as evident as it is today. If this happens I think our country can "rise again" from the evils that are there now and the people can live with peace of mind.

The optimistic option: humans, faced with a threshold situation where artificial intelligence could take control of life on the Planet, have begun to appreciate the importance of their species, the value of humanity and the power of unity of all people AGAINST the threat of extinction, FOR the flourishing of Homo Sapiens. (Sensing the threat to humanity as a whole, humans will stop warring with each other and unite.) (We must not surrender our intellectual and creative capacities to artificial intelligence! This degrades humanity! Artificial intelligence must be confined to the level of assistants - mainly to physical work!)

In 2040, we will probably have exclusively renewable energy, only electric cars and enough charging stations to ensure that charging is fast and efficient. Electricity prices have fallen to a low level, so the climate can slowly recover. There are still debates in the Bundestag because the contrasts between left and right are too great and the conservative center has declined sharply. All in all, not that much has changed in the last 15 years.
