Inside the first self-sustainable city on Mars - by ABIBOO studio
Construction of the city of Nüwa could start in 2054 and will see 250,000 people live inside the rock of a steep cliff. Freeze my body, melt me in 80 years, and send me to Mars. Architecture studio ABIBOO has revealed its plans to create the first self-sustainable city on the Red Planet, which is set to be ready for residents in 2100. The city will be called Nüwa and will be located at Tempe Mensa on one of the Martian cliffs. Its position inside a rock on the steep cliff will protect its residents from radiation and meteorites (cool!) while still giving them

Spokój duszy i ciała
The world is full of peace and is not rushing at the same pace as before. A 4-day work week is introduced to have more time for oneself, family or friends. People are less stressed and consequently happier. Everyone can afford a little luxury and salaries are not as varied as they are now.
Utopia ma voglio sperare
In 2040 all the peoples of the earth will have abolished wars and discrimination. Each country will have helped others in need and there will be shared prosperity. Women will have achieved equal treatment with men, and all gender-based violence and discrimination will have been abolished
A Sustainable Future: Balancing Nature and Food
In 2040, I dream of a world where nature and food exist in perfect balance. Farms will use eco-friendly techniques like permaculture and vertical farming to grow food without harming the environment. Cities will be full of green spaces, with rooftop gardens and urban farms providing fresh, organic produce to communities.
People will rely more on plant-based diets, reducing the need for large-scale livestock farming, which harms forests and pollutes water. Advanced technology will help grow food sustainably, using less water and land while preserving biodiversity.
Forests, rivers, and oceans will be protected, ensuring that nature thrives alongside food production. Traditional farming methods that respect the land will make a comeback, reducing chemical use and promoting soil health.
Food waste will be minimal, with composting and recycling systems in place. This future will provide nutritious food for all while ensuring that nature flourishes for generations to come.
Ekologija
I envision a 2040s where energy is completely clean and accessible to all. The world has moved towards sustainable energy sources - solar, wind, nuclear fusion - and cities and villages have energy autonomy.
What does this look like?
- Homes and buildings are equipped with advanced solar panels and local hydrogen fuel cells. Each building generates its own energy, so electricity grids have become decentralised.
- Transport is fully electric and runs on renewable energy. There are no noisy engines on the streets and no exhaust fumes.
- Industry and agriculture use circular economy principles -

I think AI will play a big part in the future and there will certainly be a lot of technology that we didn't expect to see. For example, there will be something like a medical computer, so when you go to the doctor you could just talk to a computer about what's wrong with you and it would send medicine to you at the pharmacy.
2050
By 2050, the European Union is expected to be a leader in sustainability, digital innovation, and economic resilience. The Green Deal will have transformed energy production, with carbon neutrality achieved through renewable sources and advanced technologies like hydrogen and fusion energy. AI and automation will revolutionize industries, enhancing productivity while reshaping the job market. A more integrated and digitally connected EU will foster seamless trade and mobility. Demographic shifts, including aging populations and migration, will drive policy changes in healthcare and social security. Geopolitically, the EU will play a key role in global stability, balancing partnerships and strategic autonomy.
2040
As we entered 2025, I wasn't particularly optimistic about the state of the planet.
We faced huge challenges with climate change, plastic pollution & biodiversity loss and species extinction.
Despite the challenges, we managed to get a plastics treaty adopted where it was decided to reduce the production of new plastic. The negotiations were tough and the big oil companies were very much against it, but pressure from grassroots groups ensured that the treaty was adopted.
Today, we use many more natural and more recyclable materials. Plastic is no longer the norm that we throw away after use.
The agreement on plastics was the start of the push to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
Many cities pushed for better living conditions and after a few years, several major countries began to make more constructive proposals to reduce greenhouse gases.
Air quality in major cities has improved and this has helped to reduce the number of people falling ill with respiratory infections in cities.
We still have a big task in cleaning up plastic pollution.
Nature must also continue to have time to recover after so many years in decline.
We have slowed down the emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, but the effects are not yet so clear. However, I am pleased that we are on the right track.
La mobilità del futuro
In those years mobility was finally no longer a cost or reserved for an elite. Commercial transportation was mostly left to railroads and aerial drones for the final routes. The biggest miss-understandg of the pandemic years, electric cars, was limited only to urban transportation such as cabs and car-sharing users. Diversification was leading the way and allowed everyone to find the best solution for their needs. One of the key factors had been the development of small solar panels allowed all the auxiliary systems of normal-powered cars to be kept running, allowing a significant increase in powertrain efficiency. This type of technology spread very quickly not because it was supported by incentives or other types of aid, it had caught on because of its convenience and the possibility of home-made installation by users with a minimum of technical knowledge. The introduction of fuels derived from industrial or agricultural waste had helped to achieve economic circularity.
Saugi ateitis
More lively people, more accommodating to each other, less information being fed to people on TV and other info channels about people's deviant tendencies, lower taxes, easier for young people to buy homes to raise their children, more benefits for a decent life. Middle-aged people get good salaries for their work, peace and quiet everywhere. No one is experimenting on people, fewer diseases. Better quality of life and health. This is the period I would like to live in.
A better and more united world
Countries will have finally worked together to have a more united Europe that shows as one front where countries still have their cultural traits and values, but Europe shows as one front on the political, defence, and economical standpoint.
Many policies would have been implemented for an improved lifestyle, especially around ecology/environment for a more sustainable planet, but also around alimentation where fairer wages are paid to local producers and farmers, and consumers have access to better, more sustainable products that are good for their health and the environment, with less chemicals, political corrupted shenanigans around what is available and less third parties taking commissions.
Because of its political and economical strength, Europe will be able to help better in the long-term less developed countries in providing a fairer and long-term access to basic necessities, education and health.
