Energy supply secured in Europe, i.e. each country takes responsibility for supplying itself with the energy it needs. Many nuclear power plants or what works in each country. Free movement within Europe but not free movement to Europe from Africa, Arab countries etc. We need to integrate everyone who has come here first. In balance between electric cars and fossil fuel cars, I mean cars and trucks. Every country should work to become self-sufficient in food and what else we may need. Crime is non-existent because everyone has gone there so the prisons are full: The population within Europe is mentally stable, everyone gets help before something terrible happens. No more wife beaters, school shootings, suicides. That study results and student satisfaction are high but at the same time that blue collar jobs and other care professions are highly valued so that we do not have a society filled with engineers, etc. That researchers have managed to solve the problem of pain, cancer, menopause, osteoarthritis, etc.

4 April 2040. It's a day like any other: I leave home and comfortably reach my office thanks to the 44, an electric bus that allows me not to stress driving and to relax listening to the news from the world that go by wire. For lunch, I spend an hour in nature, eating in the park near the office, in one of the many areas equipped with benches, tables and baskets for separate collection. I can always feel connected thanks to the public wi-fi coverage of the city and, thanks to this, I organize and book an aperitif with my friends to unplug after a day of work.

The morning sun falls through my window, and I breathe in the fresh air. My housing estate is built sustainably, with lots of greenery, clean water and healthy food for everyone. I feel the energy in my body – all the years of conscious movement and good decisions have been worth it. Outside, I meet people from different cultures, but we all share the same values: Respect, equality and community. No one has to fight for fundamental rights – education, healthcare and co-determination are a matter of course for everyone. In my studio, I work on ergonomic tools that make everyday life easier for people with special needs. Thanks to new technologies, I can design individual aids that enable real self-determined life. In the evening I meet with friends who share my values. We not only celebrate our successes, but also the way to get there – because we know that life is more than just functioning. 2050 is not perfect, but it is a place where health, equality and community are no longer dreams, but lived reality.

In 2040, we live in a Europe where sustainability and community are at the heart of our society. Cities are green, with vertical forests and solar-powered transportation systems that have made polluted streets a thing of the past. Nature is integral to our lives and biodiversity thrives in both rural and urban environments. Science has made breakthroughs that have eradicated many diseases and we live healthier lives with a focus on prevention and well-being. Technology and artificial intelligence support us in our everyday lives, but without removing human contact - on the contrary, we have more time for each other. Europe is a model for the rest of the world, where cooperation between nations has created a stronger, fairer and more peaceful union. We have proven that innovation and solidarity can go hand in hand - and that the future is bright when we imagine it together.
